Moving my computer from the bedroom to the loft messed it up(not sure why)
When I reboot my computer (Dell,Desktop,xp) here is the message that
I'm getting:
************************************************** **************
Loading Bootmagic
Error #8150
Open file failed on file /BTMAGIC.PQ/BTMAGIC.CFG
Boot Magic will now Boot to your home partition.
To correct this error please run Boot Magic Configuration Program
PRESS ANY KEY
System file IO-SYS is missing or bad
************************************************** ***************
I certainly did load Partition Magic/Boot Magic on the computer, however, it was a long time ago and I don't have their recovery disks, nor can I locate a boot disk from that computer.(I also have a Sony Vaio in the home running XP)
I also do not have a hard copy of Windows XP as I downloaded the experimental version when it first came out and have never changed.
Question: is their a simple solution to this dilemma?

Have you tried running the boot magic configuration program from the Partition Magic Installation CD?
Sounds like a corrupted multiboot setup though you havent given us any information about the partition structure of your hdd(s). Basically it sounds like BM's overlay is messing with things or else the active partition is incorrectly designated.
io.sys isn't used by WinXP - its just there for compatibility reasons or for use by Win98, etc.

I had exactly the same problem, having just installed Bootmagic. It looks like the tiny FAT partition on which BootMagic lives got corrupted somehow, and because of this the computer wouldn't boot.
Managed to fix it as follows:
- From PartionMagic, set my Windows partition Active (the error had caused it to become Hidden)
- Boot from Windows XP CD and go into recovery console, the type "FIXMBR".
- This gets you into Windows, from where you can run BootMagic setup again.
This much hopefully will result in a fix for you: in my case to actually get BootMagic working I had to delete and recreate BootMagic's partition, manually uninstall BootMagic (see below) then restart Windows and reinstall BootMagic.
To uninstall Bootmagic, you must remove all BootMagic-related items from your system, including all items related to the product GUID for BootMagic. The product GUID for BootMagic is {B838AD63-FD0C-482C-B124-7116748BAC45}.
The following is taken from http://www.jarra.nl/?p=71
To remove all BootMagic-related items from your system:
1. From the operating system where BootMagic is installed, go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information and remove the directory {B838AD63-FD0C-482C-B124-7116748BAC45}.
2. Go to the Temp directory (for example, C:\Windows\Temp if you are using Windows 98, or C:\Documents and Settings\<username used to install BootMagic>\Local Settings\Temp if you are using Windows XP) and remove the directory {B838AD63-FD0C-482C-B124-7116748BAC45}.
3. Remove the directory where BootMagic was installed (C:Btmagic.pq).
4. Run Regedit, do a global search for the product GUID {B838AD63-FD0C-482C-B124-7116748BAC45}, and remove all matching key entries.
_____
Under 2. on my system this folder was not there but there was a folder with the same name under c:\windows\install\ which I removed.
Under 3. in my case this folder had gone already because it was on the tiny FAT partition that BootMagic lives on.
Under 4. there were a couple of places where the GUID was a data item of a key: I deleted the whole section containing that key because it all seemed to relate to Bootmagic.

Jan,
It's good that you found a fix and that you are willing to share the solution with everybody but the original poster has only posted once and it was over 2 years ago! With no obvious archive section here we should pay attention to some of these details prior to posting.
No big deal really, it is likely you found the post by a Google search or similar and did not notice the date when the thread was started. I'm just giving a heads up to others as to not treat this as an active thread created recently.
If the thread had been more active back when it began, other possible problems may have arisen to the reason for the error such as bad sectors or other damage on the HDD for example. The physical movement of the pc leads me to that assumption btw.
Please feel free to contribute to any other posts more recent however, everyone's knowledge is valuable here. :)
