I purchased this motherboard; Model GA-7ZMMH. It is a Gigbyte brand mobo. Well I installed it properly and everything, put power to it. It loads up fine but I have two problems, one_I was trying to change the boot sequence to load like the cd-rom first. I saved and exited, when the computer restarted the monitor was blinking as if it wasnt connected( it was blinking green. By the way this is an onboard video adaptor. So I say maybe the video adaptor is just bad, so I add my own graphics card. Same problem but on this adaptor it is just staying on the orange light, as if the computer wasn't connected. I jsut gave the computer a little rest and powered it back up, it works finally but not for long still the same problems are happening. I switched monitors and done all that still have not been able to complete that. Now for my second problem.

Two_Eveyone once in a while my monitor will detect the adaptor and so I tried to install and OS now. I put the windows xp cd in and it loacated it and was starting to load. Then it just goes to a black screen and doesnt go any further. I tried to put a linux KNOPPIX cd in, it laods knoppix, I press enter to load knoppix it extracts and BAM! the black screen appears. I tried to create bootdisks to load windows xp back on, Then it came up with another error from the floppy saying setup cannot continue due to some problem. Can someone please help me out in this situation!

Hi & welcome to the PC Guide!

Probs with a new mobo would generally suggest either a short or something isnt sitting correctly.

Find the problem by reverting back to a bare bones susyem. Take everything out - all the cards, etc. If the problem is still there then take mobo out of case, place it on a suitable non conductive surface & then power it up. (there may be a screw touching the back of the mobo)

Trial & error should identify the problem for you!

Also, see if resetting CMOS with a MB jumper helps.

Go here http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/boot/walk/index.htm to the “Boot Problem Troubleshooting Walkthrough” and let us know which steps complete and where the problem occurs.
e.g.
1. Power supply is functioning.
2. Something is being written to the screen
3. The video BIOS message is displayed.
4. The system BIOS startup screen is appearing.
5. Memory test completes.
6. The BIOS accesses the floppy drive. [You hear the noise of it being tested.]
7. The system is able to auto-detect IDE devices. [All HDD’s info shown on-screen]
8. The system is… [The table of PnP device info is shown]
9. Boot sequence is… something other than A,C or C,A. Set it to A,C.
10. 10 the floppy disk makes a noise and the light comes on.
11. The floppy disk light goes off and…
12. The hard disk boot process will continue here,
13. The system continues booting from the hard disk…

The hardware part of the boot process is now complete.
