View Full Version : OE : Sent Items saved into wrong folder

Hi there..
I'm using an IMAP server for my mails.
Which means in my OE I have two sets of folders; a set of
Local Folders (which I do not use at all) and my IMAP set
of folders.
Problem is this:
Whenever I send out emails, the msgs are saved into
the 'Sent Items' folder in the Local Folders set, instead
of the 'Sent Items' folder in my IMAP set.
Why is this so?
How can I ensure that the messages are saved into the
correct folder?
Please advise...

When you compose a new email do you ensure that the imap account is selected in the From DropDownBox. When more than one account is setup in OE the one chosen by default usually depends on which account is highlighted in the left hand pane.
That at least is what happens with Hotmail and I would imagine it is similar to an IMAP account where synchronisation is required with the mail server.
It sounds as if you may have a second smtp mail server setup (if those mails are being sent OK without appearing in the IMAP account's sent items folder) and that this is being used by default for sending. However, in all fairness, I have to say I have never actually setup an IMAP account in OE - so could be talking BS.

If I used the local folders to send mail I would not be able to send them because I've not setup that account.
Thanks for the reply.
Can anyone please shed some light on this?

I just set up an IMAP account in OE to test this out. At first the mails went, like yours, into the local folder's sent items. I had to configure the IMAP tab (Tools | Accounts | Mail) then highlight the account and click Properties. The IMAP tab is the last one on the right. Not until I correctly entered the Root Folder (which in this case even specified a trailing period/full stop) did the various folders all appear as top level folders. Prior to this they were all subfolders of the INBOX.
Read up you mail servers settings carefully and edit the IMAP tab correctly and perhaps, like me, you will get it to work.
BTW - when I send a mail there is a slight delay before the folder synchronises and then shows the sent messages in the IMAP Sent Items folder.
