I have Norton Internet Security and a Microsoft Router for my computer. Recently, I have been unable to use the internet without disabling the firewall on Norton.
:(

Any ideas as to why?
:confused:

I recieved a phone call from a fiend last week about this self same problem. When the firewall was active he could not access the internet.Disabled he had no problems. After 3 hours of trying to get the firewall working I gave up. Stopped it from running (he has XP so went into services.msc and stopped and disabled it from there) and then downloaded ZA and installed that to check if it was the definately Symantec firewall at fault.

No problems since. ZA now running on his machine and doing a good job.

His problem started after he had did his updates (set to auto) last Teus or Wed.

What is ZA?

ZA = ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?lid=home_zainfo)

Z/A is Zone Alarm, get it here (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=zadb_zadown)

You might want to go on line and run live update and see if this fixes the problem. If not, dump the Norton and get ZA

You might want to look at this (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/e2e4ce613b66167c88256d8e0076b032/f2fda234a0d7864088256baa0057a957?OpenDocument&prod=Norton%20Internet%20Security&ver=2004%20Professional&src=sg&pcode=nis&svy=&csm=no)

Classic
I tried these to get it working. No luck. He has agreed to trial run ZA for a couple of weeks then make up his mind as to whether he wants nortin firewall completly removed. If this is possible as it is part of the package he bought (I think it is called norton system security or something like that)

Please ensure that you do not have both firewalls running at the same time. After you disable symantic firewall if you have to go on-line without a firewall to download ZA remember to run a FULL check afterwards with the likes of Adaware & or Spybot. Also suggest you run an on-line trojan scan. http://www.trojanscan.com/

I personally prefer zone alarm. It's just he has a financial investment in Norton. If it was me, I would try to return it and use ZA

I agree with that. But, if you haven't already, you may want to try un-installing Norton and then re-installing. As someone else pointed out, make sure you disable the WinXP firewall.

That was the reason I asked if it was XP originally.

That was also one of the things I checked out. XP firewall was off. Worked OK until these updates. The same happened a few weeks ago but it cleared iits self up after a couple of hours. This time no way. I agree with Classic cut your losses and dump Norton.
