Hi all
I've been given the task of being our work IT guy...Thanks! I know SFA. Anyway we have a 3 machine network with a broadband router and hub. all 3 machines access each others c drives with no probs. the other day i created additional partitions on one machine, formatted the partitions, activated and moved some files over to free up the c. (When I say that I've done these things I'm no guru and may have missed something). Now I CAN see the files on the new partitions within the computer itself. I CAN'T see the partitions or files on the partitions through the network from other machines. The machine with the partitions is running win2000. the others with no partitions are running win98. I'll need to be able to access the partitions through the network. This has to be possible.
thanks for your help

Welcome aboard!
The first thing is that the new partition needs to be shared.
Right click on the partition in explorer, choose sharing and security, and choose the options you need from there.
Bear in mind that you should only make it available locally, and it is often a better idea to share folders rather than the drive (partition) itself.

Ahh the key words, folder on the new partition is shared and is now viewable through the network. Thanks a million deddard.:D

Please make sure you are NOT sharing the folder that contains your OS. This is dangerous in that first, viruses can more easily spread this way and second users can access the server and screw it up by deleting files, even by accident. This is always a bad idea.
