I have cable internet now, but I want to broadcast faxes using my computer at the same time. Is there fax software available to do this, and would I be able to be plugged into cable and telephone line at the same time?

Or would the computer have to broadcast faxes seperately and not be on my regular cable internet at that time?

A number of applications are available that enable fax capability using a modem. All you need is a 14.4 modem, which is maximum fax speed by law. (Yes, faster modems work great, but only at 14.4 speed.) Your cable internet should not affect the phone line, so you should be able to do both fax and Internet at the same time by using modem for faxes.

You'll have to make sure your software settings point each in the right direction, which is not that difficult, and install some standard fax software like Quick Link, WinFax etc. Surf over to Google (http://www.google.com) and search for fax software and you should be able to find plenty. Quick Link Messenger Service III is my personal favorite, but I understand it's not available any more, or maybe only in a pay version. Check your modem software CD, it should have fax software on it, that's where I got my copy of QL III.

If you install ANY downloaded software, check for spyware afterward.

Well, Pete, that is a good idea, and I'd like to do that. However, I'm going to first of all find a telephone modem and a plug-in card for the back of the computer that accepts both cable and tel...then find the software.

So, another option is just to broadcast fax through a free service( or paid--its only 6 cents ea.) over the net, using my regualar broadband cable to upload the information.

What do you think of that?

And, yes i will check for spyware after I download anything, thanks.

Well, I don't know of anything that accepts both telephone and cable, but it might be fun looking...

Faxes can be sent by Internet, but it's usually not free. The ideal solution would be a modem for faxes and cable for internet, both should be accessible at the same time, so neither would interfere with the other and the setup shouldn't be too difficult. That's the route I would go...and if you already have a modem, all you have to do is install fax software and make sure the Internet connection looks for cable instead of modem, and fax looks for modem not cable...

I use Quick Voice Mail's Quick Fax. Its an add-on feature and it works out great! Its simple and gets the job done.
