I was wondering if someone could look at my log from HJT. I had the bridge.dll coming up as well, and I found this forum helpful in getting rid of it. Unfortunatly I still have something on my computer that prevents me from changing my home page. The same bad file keep showing up in HJT, even after I fix them. So I'm thinking theres some file that I cant find that reactivating it everytime. I've run the most up to date software to try and find this file, but with no luck (Adaware, HJT, CWShredder, and Spybot S&D. Here is my log file from HJT is this helps.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Joey

I'm runnig the Trend Micro scan right now and have already found 2 more viruses after already finding 6. I will update the hjt log after it finishes. I know the cashsearchbiz files are bad but these are the ones that come back everytime.
Thanks,

Hi joeymoss,

I'm disappointed that CWShredder didn't take care of those R0 and R1 items for you because it is CoolWebSearch!

Make sure you have the latest version (which you said you do) and try running it in Safe Mode. Let's see if that works.

I'm trying to infect my test computer with it right now but it's not taking for some reason.

I'm using ver 1.57.0
It says that my system is clean, and detects nothing.
Let me know what you find.
Thanks,
Konrad

That is a particularly nasty form of CWS that requires a special fix. I have to go get it, so I will be back a bit later with it....

And Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Steve

Copy the following to notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
"System"=-
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{061646A1-DC57-487D-B023-A938198C174E}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{4E8A9E72-8942-40EF-88DF-A559152F6B41}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E94CEC3-0C84-4310-AE20-CD4090178388}]

Hit save as and give it the name clear.reg Under the filename set file types to all files. Save it to the desktop. After you're done double click the clear.reg when asked to merge say yes and reboot.

Find this file system32.dll which is probably in either:

* c:\windows\system32\system32.dll
* c:\windows\system\system32.dll

... and delete it.

Then fix these with hijackthis:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://cashsearch.biz/redir.php

That should do it.

Hopefully...:)

Let's just hope it works...;)

Looks like it's been working all day though. So it probably will.

I created the clear.reg file and ran it no problem. I then rebooted and then tried to delete the system32.dll file and it won't allow it. I get an error message telling me that the file is in use and can not be deleted. It says the "specified file is being used by windows".
Any idea?

You can try to find it in Task Manager, turn it off and delete it or boot into Safe Mode, find and delete it....

I'm glad to hear it is working okay, but please post a fresh log so we can be sure we got everything. Some of these scumsuckers hide and come out when their buddies are killed....

Also, what method did you use to kill that file??

joeymoss
05-29-2004, 12:44 AM
Heres the log file.
I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the file that way. I then ran hjt and fixed the files. They have not showed up since. Let me know if this looks good.
Thanks,
Joey

Yep, looks clean, good work... Here is my prevention speech to keep it that way:

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall and a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

I'd like to add just one point. Most hijack problems will disappear when you stop using Internet Explorer. Use an alternate browser. I like Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) .
