Hey all,

First of all, let me say thank you for helping all us clueless computer users. It is great to see some very smart individuals helping out others. Not knowing what is wrong with my computer is very frustrating and your help goes a long way in making this easier and less stressful.

Second, I am having the bridge.dll problem on start up. Also, my taskbar settings are not saved when I reboot. For example, I remove the search assistant bar, then restart, and it comes back. Also, yesterday, I saw a memory error. I forgot to write down the error, but it had some memory address written on it, and a crash of explorer.exe followed. This is when the bridge.dll problem started.

Third, I have run SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and Norton Antivirus with all the updates. It found quite a bit, and all problems were fixed. With none of those scans fixing my problem, I read about HijackThis. And that is how I ended up here.

As asked from previous posts, here is the log produced,

I ran CWShredder and it said I was completely clean....

The good news is that it doesn't look to bad... To start, please extract HijackThis to a permanent folder such as C:\Documents or one you create like C:\HJT. You are running it from a temp folder which means we may not be able to restore any changes made... Then close all open windows and your browser, open HJT and mark/fix:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe,
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll",Load

Then reboot and run a new HJT log, open your browser and post the fresh log so we can see if that does it....

Will this work Budfred?

I had a student here with this a while back. I dealt with it by stopping the process omniscient.exe in task manager, then removing WSA through Add/remove programs. Then I used HJT to remove the bridge.dll entries. Shutdown completely. Upon restart, I removed bridge.dll from C:\Windows\system32 and any folders for WSA in C:\Windows\programs.
He also had bargain buddy going too.

Worked well. Curious to know if just removing these two entries in HJT will do the trick.

What about this one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SA] C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

I don't know if the issue is relevant to the current topic, but my taskbar keeps resetting. Though, before I removed those two files, my taskbar would always load up to a default config. But the restart after I deleted the two files gave me hope for about 2 seconds. I saw the taskbar load up to how I left it before I restared, but it then went blank and loaded the default again. It looks like my computer is possesed.

Thanks for the help

Okay apparently this is bad... but I can't find any info indicating that... do you have any info about it Malcore?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SA] C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

And BTW, the log looks clean, so here is my standard prevention speech:

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall and a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

I couldn't find anything either. WSA, Windows Search assistant, I believe.I just knew it was strange. Places some sort of search bar in the task bar. Not a tool bar in IE, but a search bar right in the task bar on the desktop messing up other task bar settings.

May be installed along with another program, as it does place itself in the Add/Remove programs list. Not sure. Who knows what a 12 year old boy is downloading and installing on his computer. Not sure if it is spyware necessarily, but I do believe it is foistware.
