Hi,

We, here in our hostel, are connected to a LAN.
How can i send a message to a friend in some other room through the pc.
If for example i m using Win98 and he is using WinXP.
I dont know what type of network it is.
I just know that we are given separate IP addresses. For example mine is 172.30.3.113.

Thnx.

Try any of those freeware programs.

thnx John0904,
i just download a chat software from this link.

But doing a google search, found the following:

http://www.internet4classrooms.com/winpopup.htm (WinPopUp)

I guess it was prety trivial.

However, it is only for Win98.
Is there any such alternative in WinXP (and Win2K) ?

thnx.

Try this (http://turbonote.com/spis/runisa.dll?SV:TBNDOWNHELP:924894) , it's free and works pretty good. The site didn't say what platforms if worked over, but I'm pretty sure it worked on W2K.

Bumpus,
Here our network administrator has banned any EXE files download. So i can't download what u suggested. Any zip or MSI files however can be downloaded.

Anyways...the Winpopup is working fine. So i don't need anything else right now.

Thnx.

I found this tool in Google. It has an easy ICQ-style.
Softros LAN messenger (http://messenger.softros.com)
The MSI file is available.
