View Full Version : PC Guide Ads?

I don't know how long this has been going on, I just noticed it...I don't pay a lot of attention to ads on the net, and on my Windows machine I have every ad server I can find in the hosts file so they never even connect...except Pair, of course...

But this just happened to catch my attention. Reading a thread, and right now typing this one, I just noticed tonight we now have ads for the TCPIP Guide and Ixl's Desktop Scenes screensaver sites.

Not only is this a good thing in my opinion, they look pretty cool too. Hopefully this will generate some revenue for our fearless leader, I'd really like to see the TCPIP Guide do well since it's probably the most comprehensive and easily understandable reference work you're likely to find.

So, is this a brand new thing or am I just really late noticing it?

One point that might be good to bring to Ixl's attention, the ad I'm seeing on this page and the ones I've seen on a couple of other threads are not centered, they sit at the top left corner of the space apparently allotted for that purpose. I haven't loked on a Windows machine with IE, but things like that usually display the same on Galeon as IE. so if the ad here is supposed to be centered, it's not. If it's supposed to be that way...never mind...

I noticed the ads, :D
I am using Firefox and they have been on the site for weeks.

Figures...I usually start scrolling before the ads ever have a chance to load, maybe that's why I never noticed till now.

As an after thought I decided maybe a screenshot of what I'm seeing would be better than I can describe what I mean about the centering..

ixl has the thing animated, fades in and out, left scrolls, etc.

Pete
I use Opera and the only ad at the top of the page is the PAIR one. Directly underneath is the warning about robots. No indication of the TCP one

I knew I should have posted an announcement last night, but I was tired and wanted to wait for the morning. :)

No, Pete, you haven't been missing anything, I just did this. I will start a new thread in Announcements about it. Sorry for the confusion.

No confusion, I just thought I hadn't noticed for a while. Wouldn't surprise me, I pay little attention to ads and scroll down without even looking most of the time...

whyzman...I saw that one too and wondered, then Desktop Scenes came up, then TCPIP while I posted the first post, so they rotate.
