Ok, I know I posted one of these a short time back, but that was for my fiance. I was wondering if anyone would mind taking a look at this one since there have been so many coming through lately. Anyone tired of looking at these yet? This one will be the last one for a while unless I have some problems and need to post another. I'm posting this one because my system is booting up a little slower than normal so I was wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about on here. Thanks everyone who looks at it for me.

The only thing remotely suspicious to me is wild tangent:

C:\WINNT\wt\updater\wcmdmgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wcmdmgr] C:\WINNT\wt\updater\wcmdmgrl.exe -launch
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WT GameChannel] C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\GameChannel.exe

If you do not have a an external USB storage device the following MAY spyware related to Napster:

C:\WINNT\SM1BG.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SM1BG] C:\WINNT\SM1BG.EXE

In my opinion the following are a wate of time and resources:

C:\Program Files\AOL Companion\companion.exe Aol Companion

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINNT\UpdReg.EXE Registration reminder
O4 - Global Startup: America Online Tray Icon.lnk = C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0\aoltray.exe Aol Tray Icon

O4 - Global Startup: AOL Companion.lnk = C:\Program Files\AOL Companion\companion.exe Aol Companion

You can kill the following as they will be replaced when you visit the site:

O16 - DPF: {99CDFD87-F97A-42E1-9C13-D18220D90AD1} (StartFirstControl.CheckFirst) - hcp://system/StartFirstControl.CAB

And finally, while I'm on my soap box:

If you are shelling out the $40 some dollard for Comcast, why do you still have AOL. Software so bloated it makes norton look lean and compact. Dumping AOL can usually make any system run better....

This is the only clear malware in the log, it is called Netster and it does mess with your system:

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/0608e7b2d4936a...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Also, WildTangent isn't considered malware, but it is foistware and a recommended fix...

The other fixes are all optional.... Except possibly this one may be best left alone if it is used for USB:

C:\WINNT\SM1BG.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SM1BG] C:\WINNT\SM1BG.EXE

And BTW, please post in the Applications and Security forum if you do post any more logs....

Applications and Security. Got it. Thanks again for all your help. I don't know why you all do it, a lot of stuff to look through, but I'm greatful that you do.

As for the AOL thing, my parents chose to do DSL through them so while they are paying for AOL I figured what the heck, might as well keep it for now since I'm not paying for it. Otherwise no, I wouldn't have it. I haven't been dropped on my head that many times yet. :D

If you have done the fixes, you need to post a fresh log so we can make sure it is all cleaned up... Sometimes things that don't show up initially will show up after a fix....

Thanks for the new title classicsoftware....:D

It looks almost clean, but you still have WildTangent and I wouldn't keep that on my computer....

Also, it looks like your install of IE may not be finished....

O4 - Startup: Resume Windows Update Installation.lnk = C:\WINNT\Windows Update Setup Files\ie6setup.exe

Either way, here is my prevention speech to avoid future problems...

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Thanks Dr Budfred and Classicsoftware. I thought I got rid of the WildTangent, but that's what I get for thinking. I don't know how you guys read these logs all the time as it just tires me out looking at mine once. ;) I'll go ahead and fix those to "problems" and all should be well in my computer land. At least I think.

And you know the odd thing about that IE setup, when I installed it I had problems. It's been some time ago so I don't remember exactly what happened, but I know everytime I restarted the computer I would be back in the process of IE trying to continue with installation. Eventually the problem went away all together and I haven't had a problem since, but it is pretty odd that this never did finish. I don't know why I'm not having any problems and I'm not sure if I should do anything about it.

One other question I have, and I may be just paranoid, but I followed one program in my task manager, under processes, to Messenger. The odd thing is I don't have messenger up, nor have I ever used it, but it keeps appearing in my task manager sometimes changing the order in the processes list. When I try to end task it just comes back again later. Is this something normal part of the Windows XP environment, and since I don't have as much knowledge as I wish I did I'm just being paranoid, or is this not suppose to be happening? Thanks again guys.

Go to GRC (http://www.grc.com/default.htm). Download and Run all three programs and especially shoot the messenger.

Thanks again Classicsoftware. You've been a big help once again. Just reading through my post and noticed I spelled two as to. Man, I have to stop trying to write at three in the morning. Anyway, thanks again.
