View Full Version : Trojans in bridge.dll

Hi,

I've been reading a previous post about problems with a bridge.dll file, however, I'm a noob to this whole virus-assassin thing. I ran AdAware and Norton, however antivirus.com's Housecall found eight trojans and some back-door thing. I was able to delete all but two of these. I tried to delete them manually, but it says that the files are in use and that I can't modify them. IZone has kept many of them from accessing the Internet (I think and hope... I've gotten messages anyway)

My computer all of a sudden started running slower (it's Win XP, 1.13 Ghtz laptop) but I was trying to finish a huge project before dealing wih them all. As soon as I deleted most of them, it picked up in speed. However, now when I start my computer, Windows Media player opens up. It doesn't play anything, but it loads and sits there until I X it out. Also, when I open up My Computer, it takes about 10-15 seconds of the little flash-light searching to find the harddrive and my CDrom drives. I'm sure it's doing other things, but those are the most apparent.

I tried to dl HJT, but I have dial-up and none of the sites (including the mirrors) even load for me. I believe the two viruses are:

Troj_istbar.o
bkdr_ruledor.e

Is there a way to stop them so I can delete them, or maybe prevent them from starting when I start my computer?

Thanks, any suggestions would be appreciated.

To delete something that says in use, you do Control+Alt+Delete>Task Manager, end task on item in question, then delete the item.
It is better to do Adaware, Spybot, CWS, then run HJT and post a log.
Reboot between all scans.
Also post all the items the AV scan said you had on the PC, it makes a difference.

If you are unable to download or run Spybot or CWShredder, you have a very nasty problem... Try the links in my signature...

I was finally able to find a mirror site that let me dl HJT in a zip file, which helped since I have dial-up. I ran the programs suggested (except CWS, because that had an error message when I tried to run it, something about not being a win32 application). Also, using task manager to end applications like whatever's going on in bridge.dll does not work because it doesn't show up (hence asking for another way around it). But anyway, here's my logfile, I appreciate your help:

You do have CWS, so you need to run CWShredder again. Try a fresh download and if it won't run, write down exactly what it says so you can post it here... After you do that, close all open browsers and windows, open HJT and mark/fix whichever of these are still there:

Then reboot and post a fresh HJT log here...

Bud', any reason for not going in and finding and deleting av.exe and id53.exe? Seems that's the usual routine for bad 04 items...

Budfred

Steve,

Nope, the only reason I didn't suggest that is that I missed it... I was thinking about the CWS problem and forgot to mention that so:

lorna_of_books,

After running the fixes, reboot to Safe Mode and find/delete the part in BOLD:

C:\WINDOWS\av.exe
c:\installer\id53.exe

Then do the reboot to Normal mode, run HJT and post the fresh log...

Hey,

I attempted to dl the CWShredder from the links in your signature again -- it lets me dl it, but it goes suspiciously fast (unless it's really small... it's done in a second and I have a slow dialup). When I try to run it, an error message that says "c:\program files\anti-virus software\CWShredder.exe is not a valid Win32 application". It gives me no further errors or messages. I've tried reopening it after rebooting, and it does the same thing.

Secondly, the whole safe mode thing... why safe mode?

Thirdly, thanks for your help, I didn't realize that my computer was so ridden with viruses. I feel like a complete computer-know-nothing (not what I thought at one time...) -- I appreciate the effort.

The deal with Safe Mode is that only a minimal set of files are loaded in Safe Mode so it is more likely that the bad programs won't be running and you will be able to delete/fix them... When you boot to Safe Mode, also try to install and run CWShredder... It is a Win32 application, so something is blocking it... Also, please post a fresh log so we can see how it is going... It is possible that you may have been able to fix a lot of it with just HJT....

CWShredder still does not load, in safe mode or not. I was able to delete the install folder, but could not find av.exe. I did scan with HJT and delete/fix the files you suggested... here's the new log

I don't know why CWShredder is not loading, but it looks like your log is clean so it may not matter. It was recently updated, so you could download it and try it again if you would like....

At this point, I suggest running an online virus scan and download and run the trial version of TrojanHunter to make sure you got all the stuff that HJT can't see... This is the link for TrojanHunter and there are links for online virus scans in my signature....

Then here is my prevention speech to help stay clean:

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Did you run the virus and trojan scans?? If so, did they find anything??
