Hi there,
Here we go. My first post and asking for help.
Things to consider: I am an absolute beginner in networking and limited knowledge in PC stuff. Living in Europe and using XP in french.
Issue: wireless network installed recently. Worked one week ago for about 15 min only. Afterwards, desktop doesn't want to "see" the router, no internet, nothing.

I have a Netopia Cayman ADSL router and a ADSL connection.

A laptop with XP and an TI ACX 100 wireless card. WEP activated.
IP 192.168.1.38 assigned by DHCP,
Gateway 192.168.1.1
access point. Windows XP
The internet is working like a charm.

A desktop with a D-Link AirPlus DWL-120+ wireless USB adaptor. Running XP also.
IP 192.168.1.30 assigned manually.
Gateway 192.168.1.1 assigned manually
I can not connect to the internet, I can not share files and printer with the laptop.

Both are usig the same SSID.
Desktop is hooked to the network and the signal is excellent. I have tried deactivating and activating XP Zero Configuration.

Help. Thanks in advance.

dragos,

You may want to try letting the DHCP assign the IP for the desktop, and have you made sure that the air card is the default network adapter?

Can you ping the gateway?

Go to Start --> Run --> cmd

And in the command line window type in ping 192.168.1.1

Let us know what happens with that.

Thanks guys.

1. Laptop ping is OK: 37 ms response time

2. Desktop with IP 192.168.1.1, ping response zero. Cannot access.

3. Changed the connection settings TCP/IP: automatic IP allocation.
4. IP now is 169.254.185.5
5. Restart
6. Pinged with the new IP, guess what: response time under 1 ms. Wow.

7. Went quickly to IE. Nothing. Can not find the page.

:-(

A short post to let you know that the network is working now. I reinstalled everything and this did the trick, although this is the second time I reinstall.
Thanks you both for the assistance.
A great forum for novices and experts.
