:(
I can barely type this to you I'm getting pop-ups everywhere (past my blocker). Every hour I do a new adaware scan and there is easily 200 more new objects along with 10 processes. At one time I had 3 searchbars installed on my browser. What's wrong here? I have a HJT log for you but how is this happening?

First you have the Peper trojan. Download the removal tool (http://www.mjc1.com/files/peperpage/uninst.exe).
Run it several times and then re-post your log.

Hi Killer,
Boy, you really got clobbered there. The Peper Trojan is getting harder and harder to fix. It's still in your log. Give this tool a try:
http://downloads.subratam.org/PeperFix.exe
Run it a couple of times. Run it with an IE window open. Run it with nothing else running. Run it a few more time just for fun...;)
If it doesn't work we can clean it manually.
Then fix the following with HJT:
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar1_27.dll
O3 - Toolbar: QuickSearch Search Bar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar1_27.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [B9iJ] C:\documents and settings\conor heine (admin)\local settings\temp\B9iJ.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [5Y6GMQ@4YS8KA7] C:\WINDOWS\System32\AmxKR.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dp-him.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll",Load
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zmpwupww] C:\WINDOWS\System32\puuora.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SmartBarXP] C:\Program Files\SmartBarXP BETA4.8\SmartBarXP.exe
And you might as well fix all of the 016 items.
Boot into safe mode, hunt down and kill:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\VghO4e.exe <---file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Vby65.exe <---file
C:\documents and settings\conor heine (admin)\local settings\temp\B9iJ.exe <---file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\AmxKR.exe <---file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\puuora.exe <---file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dp-him.exe <---file
Reboot and post a new log.

Ok, Ive done everything except safe mode and the peper is gone (I think). My only question is should
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SmartBarXP] C:\Program Files\SmartBarXP BETA4.8\SmartBarXP.exe
be fixed? It's an app I downloaded that's really neat. You can see it here (http://www.smartbarxp.com) ;)
I'll post a follow up soon

Steve, what do I look for in Killer's log that identifies the Peper Trojan?
Killer, do you have any idea how this (these?) thing(s) got past your firewall?

no clue:(
I just checked and it had been disabled. I'm not sure how or who did it because I never did. It's been re-enabled and here's the follow up:

Sorry, I had to run out for a few hours. Glad Steve got in to help you.
The followig looks suspicious to me:
O3 - Toolbar: RefresherBand Class - {B24BA06E-FB7B-4757-95C2-DC01125F750E} - C:\PROGRA~1\YREFRE~1\YREFRE~1.DLL
I would fix the following:
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'xfire_lsp_6390.dll'missing
But, do not use HJT, use Spybot or
LSPFix (http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm)
It looks a whole lot better
Steve

Killer,
Nope. You don't have to fix that 04 entry if you like the program. I was just using a big hammer, if you know what I mean. :)
Donn,
Peper is identified by a 14 character, randomly named, 04 entry starting with a number. In this case:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [5Y6GMQ@4YS8KA7] C:\WINDOWS\System32\AmxKR.exe.
You will also usually find two randomly named files in the running processes. In this case:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\VghO4e.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Vby65.exe
CS,
That 010 entry seems to be legit. You can find it here:
http://www.angeltowns.com/members/zupe/lsps.html
I may be mistaken and if Spybot picks it up, have at it...;)
Edit: That 03 toolbar seems to be legit. Here is the entry from Tony Klein's and Merijn's Toolbar list:
L {B24BA06E-FB7B-4757-95C2-DC01125F750E}: Yrefresher.dll, YREFRE~1.DLL - IE refresh tool

Steve:
I wasn't sure, that's why I said let Spybot or LSPFix fix it. If it's bad they would find it. If it wasn't they would let it pass. Further investigation confirms it's from an game company to update their software.

Where did this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Conor Heine (Admin)\Desktop\Genesis v4.6.9.exe
come from.
Did you install anything since we last spoke as it is not in your previous logs.

Also, where did NewDotNet go?? You had that in your first log and then it disappeared... It may have been the source of all of your troubles, so you need to avoid it like the plague if you installed or uninstalled it...
classicsoftware... LSPfix will fix whatever you tell it too, so it is not a good idea to suggest it unless you are sure that it is bad...
Donn... As I have said before, if you really want to learn this stuff get involved in a class... A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous... I was invited to join a class because I was trying to do it the way you are and I gave out some bad advice...

So Budfred how did you know it was NewDotNet

I am so glad you asked that because it explains where it went... I remembered seeing it, but didn't remember where until I checked again... This is the NewDotNet searchbar:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar1_27.dll
The fact that it was fixed by HJT could be a problem... it needs to be uninstalled, but it may not have been completely installed to begin with... It would be a good idea to check in Add/Remove Programs to see if it is there and try removing it if it is....

Donn,
Joining the classroom at Tom Coyote's or the Boot Camp at SpywareInfo really is a good way to go, but not the only way. Some folks feel out of place there until they learn a little. Continue to ask questions here or where ever you feel comfortable and pretty soon you'll have a good feel for the subject. If you have any more questions, feel free to post them. :)

Steve, thanks, I do prefer at this time to just ask questions and learn a little at a time until I have some handle on a few more things most of you probably consider rudimentary. I paint houses for a living and when I'm working...it's a long day in the summer heat, so sometimes I'm really busy and sometimes not. I would prefer to take a class when I can be (awake and) consistent with it.
Budfred: I do not, and am not about to, give advice on HJT. I am trying to educate myself, and, to be able to accurately refer someone to post a log or wait for an expert when I see something I think is suspicious
so as not to waste everyone's time.
