I recently started having problems on start-up. I would start my computer normaly and it would act like everything was going fine then it will stop at a black screen. I then will "ctrl, alt, delete" and it will reboot in safe mode, then I restart and everything goes fine from there.
I felt it was time for a reformat anyways so I did so, and the problem is still there. Any ideas? It's a P2 450 MHZ running Windows 98
thanks

Hi Jennifer,
By any chance, did you make a change to the system right before this started happening? Did you install new hardware, or new software?
It sounds like a driver issue to me, but don't quote me on that. Post back with some history and we'll go from there.

Thanks for the reply Blue. There were no hardware upgrades, and as far as I can remember I haven't done any software upgrades for a long time. I wish I could say that I had, that might narrow the problem down http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

I've recently read about the same problem which was caused by a bad video card. Replace the video card with a spare one, if possible, and see if things work. If so, replace the card.
