Hey all...

Since The PC Guide's search engine has been down for a LONG time, I wanted to tell everyone that I have it working again now. You can reach it here (http://www.pcguide.com/search.htm).

This is for the main site. There is no change for searching within the forums, which works the same way. However, I also wanted to say that I have changed permissions so those who are not registered or logged in cannot use the search function. This will cut down on unnecessary bot traffic.

(For those who are curious, the problem with the search engine came as a result of a lovely "improvement" Microsoft made to FrontPage. GRRR. I had to go to Google, which is okay since it is a better engine anyway.)

Outstanding, you rule!! Google is King!!:D :D

Couple of occasions in the past the old search function could have come in handy. Nice job.

Ixl, I'm confused. (as usual ;) ) You say that the search function of the forums has not changed but those who aren't logged in or registered can't use the search function. I didn't think one had to be registered or logged in to use the main guide so it sounds like the search function here at the forums has changed.

I'd hate to think that guests couldn't search for answers before registering and posting a question. Have I just misunderstood?

You know what, Steve? You're right. I never thought about that aspect of it.

I will not make the change after all. Thanks.
