Copy Hijack This to its own folder and run it from there. Doing it that way will ensure your logs and backups are available later in case a restore is necessary.

Run Adaware and Spybot first, clean up everyting they find, then run hijack this again and post the new log, or let us know if you've already run them.

So far, here's what I see, and the applications mentioned above may be able to fix some of it. Look for any of Budfred's posts, he has good links in his signature for the program download sites. (I'm just about a zombie this time of night, I'm going to forego searching this time, sorry...)

Those can all be fixed and I'm seriously suspicious of this one:

You will also need to get rid of this little pest:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINNT\twaintec.dll

Reboot into safe mode and then dekete all of the files that were fixed:

C:\WINNT\twaintec.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\whexvszo.exe

I would NOT get rid of these.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINNT\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dla] C:\WINNT\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe

If you have an HP computer, these programs control Drive Letter Access and your burning software may not work.

I had run AdAware prior to HJT but had not used SpyBot.

I have now run Spybot and afterwards created a new HJT log, I have pasted it below.

I'm very grateful for all your help.

You still have a number of fixes to do and it would probably be a good idea to print this out so that you can make sure you got them all.

Please close all open windows and your browser, open HJT and mark/fix:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://amazingautossearch.com/searchbar.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://amazingautossearch.com/searchbar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about :blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cwjvrydho] C:\WINNT\system32\whexvszo.exe

Unless you know what these are and that they are safe, please fix them:

O9 - Extra button: @btrez.dll,-4015 (HKLM)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @btrez.dll,-4017 (HKLM)

After running the HJT fixes, see if you can find and delete this file:

C:\WINNT\system32\whexvszo.exe

If you can't, reboot to Safe Mode and make sure Win2K is set to show all hidden files, then find and delete it...

Reboot and post a fresh log to see if we got it all...

Did you run AdAware and Spybot before starting on the HJT fixes?? If so, did you update them and do you have version 1.3 of Spybot?? You have a program still there that is usually disabled in the spyware scans so it is easier to fix, but it seems to be hanging on... If you haven't done the scans and updated them, please do that and then use HJT to fix these again...

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lbfacha] C:\WINNT\system32\whexvszo.exe

You will need to boot into Safe Mode to find and kill this... It is changing each time you reboot, but the actual file is the same and it must be deleted....

C:\WINNT\system32\whexvszo.exe

If you don't know how to boot to Safe Mode and Show all hidden files, please note that and we can give you instructions....

Reboot and post a fresh log after you finish... Please provide detail in response to my questions...

Yes, I ran AdAware and Spybot before I did the HJT fixes and I am using version 1.3 of Spybot.

I'm not sure how to boot to safe mode, but is it hit F8 when booting?

I will have a go anyway and post a new HJT log shortly.

I booted to safe mode but cannot find c:\winnt\system32\whexvszo.exe (I had Show Hidden Files selected).

I deleted it a day or two ago though in normal mode.

Here is my lastest HJT log, have I got rid of everything now?

It does appear that you got it, but it showed up in your last log... Had you rebooted after doing the removal and before running the last log??

Anyway, your log looks clean now. Assuming that it is and you are no longer having problems, here is my prevention speech.....

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. You need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads. All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Check out this article for more ideas:

Yep, looks clean to me, and thanks to Budfred and classicsoftware for catching a couple I missed, I was just about a zombie when I posted... and wasn't sure about a couple of them anyway. The DLA file I couldn't remember, but knew it didn't have to go.

Also a heads up, for those of you who haven't run across it yet, this file

C:\WINNT\PMJ151LA.BIN

is related to Panasonic DVC Webcam software. Someone on Broadband Forums (http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,8746760~mode=flat) did some research on it.

I think maybe I didn't reboot before running HJT last night (it was pretty late and I was tired!).

Thank you so much for helping me with this.

I'm already runnning Norton Firewall (are there better ones?) but I will also look into the other software that you recommended.

Again...thank you!
