It may be a time where a PC Guide discussing notebook standards and notebook specific technologies would be welcomed on PCGuide.com.
What You Will Not Find Here
Information on Notebooks: Notebook PCs are kind of a special breed and for the most part, they break all the rules. This site is aimed more towards the do-it-yourselfer anyway, and notebooks aren't conducive to that. I do include a reasonably detailed discussion of specifying notebook PCs in this section of The PC Buyer's Guide.
Whitebooks, or barebones notebooks, are becoming more popular to do-it-yourselfer who has interest in owning a laptop but wishes to have more control over it's features. While resellers intent on delivering custom-configured notebooks mainly purchase whitebooks, there has been increased interest in purchasing barebones models and components from a reseller, allowing a do-it-yourselfer to configure and assemble their notebooks and load-up the software they desire. Barebones notebooks and notebook components are becoming more available through popular online hardware resellers, most notably Newegg.
More easily available information on notebook standards and notebook-specific technology would allow more do-it-yourselfers to learn that notebooks are not as proprietary as they once seemed.
