HP System restore to 1899

My HP computer is bogged down. freezes up. I thought I would do a system restore to an earlier date. When I do the system restore it shows "" Saturday, December 30, 1899 There are no restore points created yet for this day. To restore immediately, pick another day and restore point, and then try again " I have used this is the past so it at one time worked! My system date is correct. Any ideas on how to recover?
