system lockup

My computer froze up when I was checking my mail. I rebooted and then it said the following: Windows has disabled direct disk access to protect your long filenames. To override this protection see the LOCK /? command. The system has been halted. Press control alt delete
to restart your computer. When I tried it just recycles this message. Any ideas out there?
