+512, or 256ddr

ok, so I am finally going to upgrade my ram. Currently I have 256mb PC2700 DDR memory.

At first I was planning to put another 256 in and make it 512, but I was wondering if it would be worth it to spend the extra $40, and get have 768mb.

Right now I mostly use my computer for heavy gaming (ut2k4, JK3, C&C generals, etc), and web browsing.
Advice would be helpful.

With Win2K/XP the more RAM the merrier.

With Win9X/ME don't go over 512MB.

thanks, yeah, I'm running XP, any specific brands for under $85 (512mb), I've been searching on newegg, found buffalo for $84

If you use dual channel memory, you might wanna keep it symetric, so either 512 or 1024.
