I have a 3 slot Mobo and what [ if any] way would be best grouping to use? This is a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe board -----the manual states " to enhance system performance, utilize dual-channel feature when in stalling Dimms.you my install in the following sequences

Sockets 1 and 3
Sockets 2 and 3
Sockets 1-2 and 3

3 always being in the choices. Now I have all XMS Ram

1 stick of 512 LLPT Corsair
2 sticks of 256 LLPT Corsair--all three sticks have the same latency 2-3-2-6

Seeing socket 3 is always in the mix should I put the 512 stick there ??
and 1 and 2 get the 256 sticks ??

Socket 1 is closest to the CPU [ Barton 2500+ ] and the nVidia n Force2 SPP Chipset

Well any way is there any reason to be concerned or does it even matter

Thanks Grumper

It's my understanding that the blue colored slots 1 & 2 comprise channel 1, and the black colored slot 3 is channel 2.
In order to enable dual channel operation with 2 RAM modules, insert one in slot 1 or 2, and one in slot 3.
With 3 modules, my guess would be to insert the 2-256 MB modules in slots 1 & 2, and the 512 MB module in slot 3 for dual channel operation.

Ski ----Thanks for the confirmation--this was my inclination also, but the way some manuals are written, like throw your Mother down the stairs, her hat ,can make you wonder what is meant when Asians try to phrase out a thought into English---what you say makes sense, these manuals are written for several mobo`s---They should have an English Major/ Computer Science Major type person proof read their releases.

As Always Thanks Ski----------Grumper

No problem, Grumper.
Hope it works as intended.
