Guys, i want to set up SQLserver on one of our servers. I don't expect the app that will use the DB will be processor intensive.

I talked to one guy who said that there may be problems adding another app to a server because the servers were created with a specific need in mind. One server has our billing info and it already has SQL server2000 on it. The other is a web server.

1) why can't i just use the DB we have an create my own tables etc with my own password and that not be a problem for billing?

2) would such a small DB present a problem even if the servers were designed with only those particular functions in mind.

I just find it hard to believe that i will have to get a brand new server jsut to host a small app.

Sounds like to me this guy doesn't want you to mess with his server lol

An additional tiny database wouldn't eat up to much resources, but it would eat up some. If he has limited resources he has a valid point.

I don't think the resources are limited at all. the servers aren't even 2 yrs old yet.

I would be just guessing here but, based on what you say, it also could be possible that he didn't set it all up and has no clue how to do what you want.

They are novices. I don't think they set it up. i think they had a company do it. Thus they have no idea what to do with it. But what i want to do, i don't think is difficult so I'm going to try to move ahead.

Whose server is it? If you are not an owner, don't do it. It's not yours..... If you are an owner, go for it...
