I'm a computer newbie and have come across a problem I can't fix. I have a 3-year old (approx.) Gateway P3, 450 mhz, 128 mb PC. The video card is Nvidia Riva TNT. I had never updated the driver for that card until tonight when I somewhat hesitantly downloaded the new Detonator XP driver which supports the TNT and other versions. I installed it (in the middle of which I got the worrysome message: "Setup was unable to delete the following file: nvdisp.drv. The installation will be terminated.") Anyway, it didn't terminate the installation, it completed it. When I rebooted my computer (as I had to have the new driver kick in), I was unhappy to see that I now have a large black frame around my screen image... a large black border surrounds my page and my screen size has shrunk considerably. HELP! What have I done? I'm assumming this problem is driver-related, or perhaps it will just take a simple adjustment to reclaim my full screen-size. Please, what can I do? I'm desperate and dumb and beg your assistance. Merry Xmas! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Help! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Control Panel > System
Device Manager > Display Adapters (Expand)
Choose the graphic card > Properties
Driver > Update Driver > Next
Click "Display a list of all drivers....." > Next
Choose your old driver you had before > Reboot.

If this doesn't work, then you need to boot into safe mode and delete your current display adapter, reboot and install your old driver.

Hopefully this will work for you.

John, I appreciate the help. I'm too sleepy to tackle this right now but I will in the morning, X-mas morning in fact. Have a good one, I'll let you know what happens.

Whoa Hoss! before you start deleting/unistalling anything!!

More than likely what has happend is now your monitor refresh rate has ben reset-this is common with new display adapter driver's. Try adjusting the screen width/heighth on your monitor ( and check your display settings to make sure your at the proper resolution ) , for instance:15" = 800x600, 17" = 1024x768, these are the most common resolution settings for these monitor sizes; also check to make sure your refresh rate is around 70-75 HZ, this will allow your monitor and vid card to properly refresh the image on yor screen.

The TNT series of cards have really seen their better days, i would suggest you try and get ahold of an MX series card if money's an issue; for better performance go with either a used Pro/Ultra card or one of the new Titanium series.
