Im building a computer and i was going to test it by powering it up. I did'nt have a heatsink on the cpu yet. But when i turned it on the computer runs for a min, then shuts down and beep's....By not having a heatsink on the cpu could it mess the cpu up or the computer? Any info would help.

No heatsink is a very bad idea, since this will generally kill the CPU.
If the the motherboard supports CPU Overheating Protection, or has thermal throttling which I beleive the P4s do, then it may have survived.
The only way to see if it survived is put the heatsink on and try starting up.
