Hello

Are there any geniuses that can help me with the problem i have been having for a couple of months. I built the machine by myself, the system specs are as followed:

AMD Athlon 1333
ASUS A7A266 MB
512MB DDR RAM
40GB Hard Drive
64MB Hercules Geforce2 MX
Soundblaster live
Windows XP

The problem that i am encountering is the system instability that occurs when running a game. I have tried all windows operating systems, W 98 SE, ME, 2000 and XP; and i keep recieving system errors, blue screen crashes or the game shuts down automatically.

The error messages that i have been recieving occur randomly during the program. The errors occur on nearly all games, and the error messages can be any of the following:

Error the DLL files asscoiated with the game or Windows
Kernell, D3.DLL, and 2D.DLL
Page faults with the software with memory errors

I have all the correct drivers and directx versions, and there are no programs running in the background.

The only thoughts i have had are that the monitor is quite old and that the power supply needs changing as it is only 230W when i clearly need more to run a powerful system.

But could the monitor and power supply be responsible for the instability?
If power supply is to blame what power should i obtain?

Please could someone rid me of the frustration,

Yeah definately get a power supply of the 300watts or more with that system. I would do that first. Sounds like it could be some bad ram, or the motherboard is bad. I had the same problems with this board. I dont like the a7266 asus board, had nothing but problems with it. I suggest another board, like msi or somehting else.

By all means get a larger Power supply.
300 watt is the minimum for a start up with the amd above 1.0
350 watt or higher is a good place to start . The little extra doesn’t hurt and leaves you with room to expand.

The monitor will not cause memory errors in the system memory.
Any errors from the system would be things like freq out of range IF you set the scan/refresh rate higher than the video settings would allow for that monitor.
