I have a desktop PC and a laptop and wish to synchronize the data on both systems i.e. Any change to "My Documents" on the PC will appear on the laptop when connected via the local LAN.

The PC is running W98 and the Laptop XP Professional.

I would also like to synchronize my Outlook Mail client so that any changes on either system are reflected on both.

Can I do this in Windows or do I need 3rd party software.

I think you should be able to do this as long as the relevant files/folders are shared on the network. You would then need to enable offline files from the "Offline Files" Tab of the MyComputer > Tools Menu of the laptop (running WinXP or Win2K). Then synchronise as and when necessary. It might be better the other way round but you would need Win2K or XP on the desktop to do this.

Using Briefcase is the other Windows way - but a messy way IMHO.

Thanks - I had figured offline files would do the job BUT have you any suggestions for Outlook mail Syncronization between the 2 PCs?
