Have a friends puter that had outdated virus protection. What I did is pull his hard drive and slaved it to my machine. I ran AVG on it and was able to clean off evrything that AVG found.

When I installed the hard drive back into his machine I am not able to get a internet connection. I have a lan hookup to the back of his machine. I have also tried mozillia but that too can't find the internet.

Its a Compaq is there a way to repair his XP without having to reformat / reinstall everyting? Everything elase works, and windows see the LAN port. I just can't get IE or Mozillia to pull up any web pages.

You can run the network setup wiz again
Or just go into internet options in control panel and tell it to find connect auto

Lets start at the beginning:

Was the system able to get on-line before the clean-up?

What virus infections were found and removed? What files were infected?

Who was the ISP before the clean-up. Is it the same now?

Without that information it's hard to pin down exactly what's wrong.

But to get started,

By PrntRhd Could be ICF (windows firewall) got turned on? . This is the best place to start. Check to see if the windows firewall is turned on.

Next rt click on My network places Choose properties. Choose the active connection, usually the associated with the NIC. Make sure it is enabled. If not enable it. Then Rt click and choose properties again. Bow there should be a list of all of the network components. Highlight TCP/IP and click on properties. Make sure the card is set to get an IP address automatically.

Next run SFC and see if any files are damaged or missing.

Answer the questions and explain your system settings and we'll go from there.
