Hi:

I'm trying to add 2 WinXP clients to a Windows 2000 Small Business Server and keep getting the erro "The specified domain does not exsist or cannot be contacted."

What am I doing wrong? I've added several Win95 & Win98 machines without trouble. Is there a trick to XP machines.

Thanks for your help.

You have to "Join" the domain. When you do, you will need the admin password on the server to be allowed to join. This will also be tru if you need to join a WIN2K professional pc to a domain.

First, are the XP machines XP Home or Professional? Machines running XP Home cannot join a domain. It is possible to access data on a domain with XP Home, but you cannot join.

If using XP Pro, have a look here (http://www.lpt.com/windowsnetworking/regusers/wxpjoind.htm)

Thanks to both of you for your replies!

It is XP Pro.

malcore: Your link is exactly what I ended up doing. I read it after I go t the computer to network.

However, the logon is very slow.:( It takes about a minute to apply the user's settings.

Is this a client problem or a server problem?

Could be a DNS problem (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;291382http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;291382) or it could be an XP Pro glitch (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329457) or another glitch (http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1336.aspx).

Those links were helpful.

The XP clients were set up to get the DNS server address automatically, when I changed this to the IP address of the server entry everything was fine.

Thanks all!
