I'm running Windows ME. When i reboot my computer i get an error message that says: "Explorer has caused an error in ~5675718958.tmp. Explorer will now close."

When i click OK, Windows shut down but does not reboot or completely cut off but locks up somewhere in limbo, which is a destop with no icons.

Do you have any suggestions.

Since ME comes with the System Restore feature, you could go back to a previous date if you have a restore point for that date.

If this fails, then you might need to uninstall any program you installed just before the message appeared.

I would boot into safe mode or DOS mode and delete the temp folder and it;'s contents & re-boot.

Yep...

ME doesn't have a DOS mode, so a win98 start up disk will be necessary to get into DOS and delete the temp folder/files. Or tap the F8 key while it boots until it gives you a boot menu and try it from Safe Mode. Temp or .tmp files are usually safe to delete, and if one is causing error messages it's a good chance it's something you definitely don't want running anyway.

If you delete the Temp folder it will be recreated by windows next time you reboot, and usually it should be safe to delete it and everything in it.
