Hi guys, hope you can help me with this one.

Recently I was hijacked by parasites, so in the midst of cleaning using hihackthis, adaware and spybot, I may have screwed up the config, or could be those parasites messing my system. Now my quicklaunch toolbar cannot be activated. It will give the following message when I right-click on the taskbar/toolbars...every other toolbars is working except Quicklaunch.

"Cannot create toolbar!"

However the quicklaunch toolbar subfolder wasnt deleted(as i suspect) when i checked. It's still at c:\documents and settings\username\application data\microsoft\internet explorer\ All my shortcuts icons inside the folder are intact.

I even try using this vb script found on this site. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_toolbar_error.htm It returned "Your Quicklaunch Folder was already created and not installed."

Any remedies beside reinstall OS? I feel pretty handicapped without that! :(

Try this: right click the taskbar, toolbars > New Toolbar... and direct it to the Quicklaunch folder. If that still doen't work, copy the contents of the Quicklaunch folder to another folder, then repeat the above steps directing to the new folder.

If you are able to create a new one, you may need to unlock the taskbar, move the toolbar to where you want it, then right click the toolbar and choose whether you want the title and/or text to be shown or just the icons.

Hi malcore,

I've tried your ways. I can create a new toolbar, but while it still gives me the error prompt "Cannot create toolbar", the new folder was created. When i right click taskbar/toolbars, the new one is not shown on the list.

I would think you are probably still infested with something or your fix damaged something.

Please post your HJT long and let one of the experts take a look at it.

Your log looks clean. If all else fails, I would repair the XP installation instead of re-installing.
