Is slow responding to my commands on the part of my desktop, or like a "delayed reaction" whenever I click anything and it reacts a couple of seconds afterwards..is that my Ram is like "on the edge", of like being depleted? Or do I have it totally out-o-whack?
Just very curious about this delayed reactionary desktop I am using which has 1 gig of Crucial 3200 dualchannel ram....
I am not wanting any more from my post, outside of understanding better, what is taking place..?
I am running my vst midi instrument, a prized specialty known as the"GarritanPersonalOrchestra", so things are in a sort of project-test phase.

Thanks to readers of this coolest of forums....

Depends on the OS and other configuration.
Slow response to commands could be due to other apps running in the background, or if it only happens when you use a certain app, then it could be that there are problems with the app. Running something like Norton Windoctor or a registry cleaner could help.
Music software does take up oodles of processing power - a gig of RAM should be ok.

I could have given a bit of "vital" data such as that, huh?
(Sorry)
I use xp home and pentium 4 prescott 3.0 scsiboot drive, raptor-pair-in raid-0 ,as recording audio-"medium".... so as you see I have tried to give the system I use, little excuse to dawdle, tarry, or in any other way,dick-around,when I give a command, but.....me&Mr Murphy, well, we got this agreement, he does as he pleases and I adapt best as I can... thats why forums with genuine good folks(like this one) are so very useful for me.

Thankyou for the response.

ps
Rosanne-RosannaDanna, had the idea,huh?

Check your IRQ's and make sure that midi instrument has its own. Make sure the midi device has its own, also. Newer hardware can share IRQ's without a problem because WinXP sort of ignores them, but older hardware won't run in that mode.

Do you have AV software installed, if so do you have it set to scan files upon execution?

When I have auto file scan turned on there is a delay while the program is scanned for viruses before it is opened.

I have stopped a few things not in use -to increase my "status" or whatever you oughta callit.., I will look to see what has been assigned and where ,by xp... ,you know, that just could be the "hang", at that!,if a redundant type sharing situation had been applied, or something such as that.. Thankyou I have always pretty much overlooked this cause I do have like a number of irq's...as in lists of them.So I may be unaware of any mis-assignment by my os
I always saw it and never really checked it
thankyou.

As for the AV sftwr.. that rings a bell.. I think I do use somethingby that name..what is it? I'll check it out THANKS !

AV -> antivirus
If your AV program finds no viruses and it's running in the background, then it may be causing the delay problem. See if shutting it down helps.

If no luck, then d/l and run Ad-aware, Spybot, and CWShredder to remove any spyware.

I've also seen a failing HD cause delay problems.

You know I discovered my c drive is 60 % fragmented... after I discovered that I have been researching to learn how best to reverse this situation.. Its another "interesting" thing or to be more specific ,one about which I am also relatively clueless except for the fact I am always or constantly using this pc .
My boot drive is partitioned .I did that for less than "learned" reasons and more cuz it seemed logical but I am debating if it was a wise move or just a move to divide my system disk and reduce the size of the functioning partition itself.
I am using a scsi for boot drive to augment performance but its clear I am doing a bit much in some area.

You know I discovered my c drive is 60 % fragmented

I think you will gain quite a bit by defragmenting that drive. Click Start > Right click My Computer > click Manage > click the + next to Storage and click on Disk Defragmenter and then Defragment.

I think you'll be glad you did.

I have dl'ed the o&o demo and the 60% is after running that several times.. the windows defragmenter has an error or something does.. when I was using it, the windows told me to run scandisk /f or it said that there was a situation where it was supposed to do this, but I have been unsuccessful at making it so. And I have tried by typing scandisk/f at my start/run thing... but it does not comply.
So thats when I knew I had to find some alternative way to try to defragment the thing ..I am close to just wiping the thing and starting out fresh, but I really wish I could just understand what is taking place or has taken place, and let that get fixed but alas

See if the Windows defragmenter runs in Safe mode.

See if the Windows defragmenter runs in Safe mode.

Yep, sure does. That's my favorite way to run defrag if a machine has something running in the background that won't let it finish.

I will buy someday I swear, but I am still using demo defrag programs as best as I can ,with occassional reformat, its like a new slate for th registry's tryout timelimit hangup... and I frankly am having a diff-time making my mind which I love the most among the three defragmenting applications which I seem to bounce from demo to the next available demo
There's diskeeper of course and perfectdisk -great and O&O''which I love as well!! so what do I make of it?

recently on this pc I built using p4p800deluxeASUSmobo, these error messages pop up after one or two fresh install usages and I get the message:
The local Machine actively refused ........
what does this mean?

I uninstalled that demo of diskeeper, installed perfectdisk, after a couple days it does it then as well!

so far now I uninstalled the perfect disk aand re-installed it.. so far so good...
now I found that I am curiously interested in the defragmenting abilities of "system mechanic"....hmm...
Now I dont' have any idea which program I like, or if any..
Comments invited...thanks
ramble on anyone?
