hello everyone

my friend just bought a puter:
pentium 4, 128 MB, windows 2000, with internal modem Motorola SM56 speakerphone.

He tried to connect to the internet using AOL free 3 months.
He is unable to connect. When i checked with him a few basic things, this is what i found:

1) modem is detected by puter (device manager, no conflicts, working properly)
2) latest drivers are installed
3) in cootrol panel, double click modem: the modem appears, when i select properties it gives me the followiing error message:
Modem properties cannot be displayed because modem information is corrupt. Try and remove it and reinstall

4) we did remove and reinstalled, same outcome
5) there seems to be a problem assigning a port to the modem, since the computer detects the modem, but in control panel, under modem, under diagnostics, no modem is detected, so i cannot do a diagnostic check either.
6) in device manager, under modem, when i look at the properties, i only see the tabs : general, driver, ressources (nothing for connection and modem tabs).

We have a CD with the drivers on it as well, tried to reinstall them, same outcome.

Any help is appreciated, any feedback to try and resolve this

Thanks in advance as usual

Try to fixed it on another slot and see if windows will detect, and use another port.

Hope it helps

Are you sure that the Win2k drivers are the ones that are installed?

Also when you removed it did you do it in "safe mode" (or 2k's equivalent)?
