View Full Version : _ins0576 illegal operation
I get the above error when I try to install various programs from my cdrom drive. Everything worked fine until I had to get a new hard drive, since my old one bit it. Is this a bad Windows 98 install? Any ideas?

Try clearing out your Temp folder before installing anymore programs; also run scandisk and [/b]defrag[/b]-this should help remove any fragments of old installs that could be giving you this error.

Thanks for the welcome. You guys sure are fast. I've tried these things, a couple of times, but I'll give it another shot. Let you know.
Thanks for trying.
I clean the temp folder, scandisked and defragged. Still get the same error message. Also when attempting to install different programs I get a new message: "An I/O error occcured while installing file." Any ideas?
Try running msconfig and look under the Startup tab for a command line that includes the _ins0576.exe
I found this on another system today,
It was left over from an incomplete install from another program.
I removed the check mark next to it and cleaned out the temp folder.
It stopped the errors for me.
It should also include the full path and command switch some thing like ( /reboot /silent)
