The problem with my PC is this one:
First of all, it is a public computer installed in a cybercafe. It is networked and there are policy restrictions in order to keep the public away from configuration settings. The policy template I used is "admin.adm". The sytstem is hybrid. Here are the specifications:

Intel Celeron 366 Mhz
64 Mb RAM
OS: Windows 98
American Megatrends BIOS dated 1999
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 450b 14", resolution 800 x 600
4 Gb Disk
CD-ROM 44x

The problem here is that Windows froze while a customer was surfing. There was no reponse from the mouse or the keyboard. I had to switch it off and then turn it on again, as Windows didn't respond to the Ctrl+Alt+Del combination. When rebooting the system, the power and HDD LED's turned on, but there was no activity from the fan, and the display didn't show anything. Furthermore, there were no beeps from the motherboard. The system was running OK, but I don't know exactly what caused Windows to freeze. I know that this customer was surfing and suddenly, the OS just failed to respond. The monitor is OK and so is the video card. The motherboard speaker is also working well. I suspect a BIOS problem, since it does not load. I can't enter the BIOS by pressing the "Del" key, and haven't checked the motherboard for loose cables.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sudden or random lock-ups like this are usually caused by excessive heat, a dead fan, power supply, or bad RAM...since there are some signs of life I would start with the processor fan and heat issues, then check the RAM...

Thanks guys. The problem was indeed a heat issue, and there was also a false contact from the power supply to the processor.

Thanks!
