View Full Version : cannot find a device file
hello,
When MY computer begins to boot it gives me two big paragraghs:
[cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows program application.
The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose try unintstalling the associated application using its uninstalling or setup process.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device file try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.
C:\PROGRA~1\CYBERM~1\CMAPIENG>VXD ] a second paragragh repeats itself...
C:\PROGRA~1\CYBERM~1\CYBERKRN.VXD.
could anybody tell me what is really going on??
Have you uninstalled any McAfee utilities lately?
Did you uninstall (using Add/Remove Programs or the programs own uninstaller) or just delete it?
What operating system are you using?

Icv3, that sounds rather like a case of missing file deleted folder without proper uninstallation steps...
First off system.ini is quite essential to windows... I suggest you do a massive search on your hard drive.
the vxd etc errors, especially coming from a registry entry linking to c:\program files folder, means you installed some program
named or made by cybermedia (I would guess for cyberm~1) and then deleted it without using the uninstaller which removes the entries in the registry. if you still have the cyberm~1 thing reinstall it and then uninstall from control panel, that should get rid of the missing file message.not sure just a hunch?

First of all, thanks for responding to my post.
Next, I would like to respond with that maybe you're probably right about deleting improperly. Sometimes I figured that because some programs don't want to delete(?)I would just delete it manually, which in most cases I'd did with just mere faith.
Nevertheless, since you agreed with me that system.ini is quite essencial where do I begin to do this massive search.
