I've been reading through this section of the forums trying to find the answer to my problem but without success, either I am a complete dufus or it aint here....hopefully someone will be able to tell me....

OK the problem is as follows.

PC1 - My machine, owner of the main internet connection, network name is Blackbox

PC2 - My Mothers machine, connects to internet through PC1, network name is Irenespc

PC3 - Laptop, again connects to internet through PC1, network name is LisvaneWI

All machines are Win Xp Home, use Norton Internet Security and are part of the RICHNET3 workgroup.

This is what works....

PC1 can read files and use the printers attached to PC2 & 3

PC2 & 3 can read each others files and use each others printers.

The problem is that if PC2 & 3 try to access PC1 they are asked for a password. The user name is listed as Blackbox\\guest. The guest account on PC1 is disabled. When enabled PC2 & 3 are refused access completely.
This problem occurs even if I disable NIS and NAV.

Any suggestions??

I'm not as sure about this as I avoid XP home like the plague. I know for XP Pro and Win2K you need to have a user created on the box you are logging into.

So you would need to have a user created on PC1 for each machine that will access the internet through it. The password will have to be the same on both computers.

I would give this a try .

I managed to get some help from MS technical support.

I eventually ended up having to set access rights for the guest account on PC1 in safe mode, changing IP settings on all three machines and making alterations to NIS for each machine too.

We got there in the end but its all workin now :D
