View Full Version : Zone Alarm with wireless
SIcne I installed Zone Alarm firewall, I am protected but it is not allowing me to view my other PC's int he network. THe other PC's can see my Zone Alarmed PC but not vice versa. How would I open up? Isn't this in the trusted zone of Zone alarm?

What is the security Level of the trusted zone in the Zone Alarm Control Center?
Trusted zone security level is on Medium
I noticed that if I setup my home network with Zone Alarm SHUT DOWN, everything works fine, I can see the other PC etc... I can print on the network printer as well. As soon as I turn Zone Alarm on, and try to print....nothing happens and on the view printer, I notice that it says "Unable to connect" and also notice that I cannot see the workgroup anymore. It seems that I need to add the whole network to the trusted zone but I have no idea how to do that.
Thanks

Can you put the IP address of the other computer's in the trusted zone?
That's the thing...I am new to XP and when I run IPCONFIG, the black screen appears and disappears so fast...I can't get the IP address.....

Dont type ipconfig into the run box. Run cmd and then in that you type ipconfig

I'm in exactly the same situation right now (see my thread "Firewall with Wireless Home Network"). I checked ZA and the network is in the trusted zone but the IP appears to be like the whole network e.g., 192.168.0.0. The desktop is 192.168.0.100 and the notebook IP is .101. Finally, the "Default Gateway" for each is 192.168.0.1. With ZA on (on the desktop) the notebook ipconfig also says "Media State ... Media Disconnected.
So, would adding each PC IP into ZA clear this up?

I suggest that you go add each PCs IP address to your firewall software individually. Also, to prevent you having the problem in the future, you should also add a range of potential IPs or the range of IPs that you use as a back up. Not really necessary, but should keep you from having to go in and immediately add each IP for each computer that you may add in the future.
I do both on my network.
I currently run two computers, router, and print server. Along, with a wireless Palm Pilot.

Thanks. I'll try that. I also found that Integrated Windows Authenication is on on my Notebook and off on the Tower. So when I try to access shared folders/files on the tower from the notebook I have to log in.
