Can get into some sites but not others.

I have a friend who can get on Yahoo, can get onto his Stock webpage put gets "Page can not be displayed" when he tries to log in.

Same with Hotmail, he can't sign in past the main page.

Any ideas?

We will need a whole lot more information.

1) System specs?

2) Browser used?

3) Security in place?

A) Firewall?
B) A/V Software?
C) Anti-Spyware software?

Delete Temporary Internet Files, cookies, run Adaware & spybot scans, then Housecalls AV scan, then HJT and post a log.

Sorry Classicsoftware, did not know you were there.

The only pages he can't get into are ones that he has to log-in to.

MSN/Hotmail, and his stock website. He can get to the website but can't logon to get personal info. Same if he tries to get onto his new Verzion home page.

He has just installed Verizon DSL and added a Belkin wireless router.

He has two computer hooked up. One has no problems and the other has this "logon to sites problem.

Both computers are running XP, IE, Norton, no firewall.

He has run anti-virus software, Spybot and Ad-aware.

Haven't tried "maintenance" on IE because I want to be there for that.

FYI,
MSN servers were having some problems per some posts I read, could be some of the problem.

At a certain point in time my PC suddenly developed the inability to access certain websites that I'd previously been able to access.

I contacted my ISP tech assistance and they eventually told me to use a PROXY server [they provided the proxy address].

That fixed the problem.

I never did understand why it was happening.

You can try a few things..........

1. IE > Tools > Internet options > Security > Click on Internet and select the default level.

2. IE > Tools > Internet options > Advanced > Security
Make sure that 'Use SSL 2.0' and 'Use SSL 3.0' are checked.

3. Make sure that 'Cryptographic service' is running.

Where is the 'Cryptographic service'?

Other items were checked.

I'll pass on the MSN info however, that wouldn't seem to effect his other sites.

Click start > Run > Type 'services.msc' > Click OK.

Here you can check whether 'Cryptographic service' is running or not.

Ensure that it's in 'automatic'.

See if this helps,

How to troubleshoot situations where you cannot complete MSN sign-up or connect to SSL secured (128-Bit) Web sites by using Internet Explorer in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813444)

Restored to an earlier date and all is well. Have no idea what caused the problem.

Thanks for the posts.
