I curretly have a computer hobby where I have built several computers and I'm definately no stranger to the guts of the pc.Well anyway a friend that works in the It dept. at work is really impressed with my computer knowledge and suggested I get my A+ certification it could lead to a career change.I'm taking his advice and have bought a book to study for the exam but it turns out that it is an older book. Some of the sample questions deal with indentifying resistors by their color markings, knowing binary and hexa decimal numbers and how to convert them, and knowing several processors and their speeds etc.....I realize that alot of head knowledge is great but it seems that these questions are better suited for a electrical engineer.I was wondering if someone could tell me the general areas to study because I really didn't want to waste my time studying useless information that maybe
great for a game of trivial pursuit but not for real life.thanks

Sorry, but converting binary to hexadecimal, knowing the different types of processors (all hardware, for that matter) that you may find while on the job are all aspects of the A+ exam. No way around it! Oh yeah, there is also bound to be a few questions about power supplies and ESD electrostatic discharge, as well. No need to be an electrical engineer, but understanding the basics of current, voltage, and resistance is a big plus. Good luck on your test.
