Hello, Everyone: I want to install Zone Alarm on my windowsXP which as you know has its own firewall (outgoing only) and at Zone Alarm they said it was compatible with XP! What i want to know, is it ok to run Both at the same time or do i have to disable my XP (preinstalled)? Is anyone running Both now and do you have any problems?

I don't know if you need to disable XP's firewall to run Zonealarm. I was running Ontrack NetDefense firewall in XP with the builtin firewall disabled and enabled it seemed to run fine both ways without conflicts windowsXP which as you know has its own firewall (outgoing only) The Windows XP firewall (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/planning/techoverview/security.asp) filters incomming trafic not outgoing and it depends on your antivirus software to keep trojans off your computer but if one happens to slip thru you won't even know it has a port open to the internet http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif Win XP is spyware and may even be considered a trojan if you include the fact that activation is an ongoing and running process that contacts Microsoft every time you boot your computer and checks your hardware to make sure it is still on the same system. Also that it contacts Microsoft when you install new hardware and/or software to see if it is on the HCL I feel the only reason for the builtin firewall is so Microsoft can do all this behind your back and with out your permision. Sometimes I think Windows XP and Microsoft use more of my bandwidth than I do http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Alright who messed it up this time!
Yes you can run ZA with XP.
You may however find that for some unknown reason ZA keeps forgetting the programs you have given permission to access the net.
At least that is what I am dealing with at this time.
every reboot causes ZA to forget that everything except IE,Eudora and XP update server is allowed web access.
BTW. I'm running XP pro. If that means anything

Thanks Guys, I have been running both now and it is working pretty good, except it seems that eversince i installed zone alarm and i would get on Yahoo mail etc. and after surfing on yahoo for an hour then i would seem to get cut off of Yahoo and I cannot get back in unless i go through my ISP site. Yahoo pages keep saying i am not on the internet CANNOT DISPLAY PAGE! when i am and it cuts off! (GO FIGURE). Does anyone know if i am missing winsock32.dll on my pc(not wsock.dll) can that cause this problem? i figure its zone alarm or missing .dll? I dont know!
