a few of us here at work are having problems running defrag.exe through win98. it'll get to about 10 percent complete, then start over or stop completely. our laptops have quite a bit of software on them, and our hard drives are near max capacity. we've tried to pause all scheduled tasks, disable all power management and screen saver features, which run in the background and disrupt the defrag process, and even copying alot of files to the server, to free up hard drive space and re-run defrag.exe, none of which have worked. our laptops have win98, lotus notes version 5.0.6 R5, and some software that we use for work related purposes, nothing too fancy. any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you...

Try running it in Safe-Mode....plus use msconfig to disabel all the background tasks...use <ctrl><alt><del> while in Windows to bring up a list of all running tasks and the eliminate everything except explorer..
