My computer boots up fine but after a couple minutes in Windows it shutsdown un-expectedly. I have checked all the wire connections to make sure nothing is loose. I suspect that there maybe a problem with the PSU.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is your system configuration and power supply rating?

Could be the power supply overheating and shutting down as a safety feature...also could be an overheating problem with your cpu or video card...
Can you turn it back on immediately, or do you have to wait a few minutes?
Did the problem just start?
What have you done to the system recently?
Are all the fans spinning, especially the power supply fan and fan on your heatsink?
Does this happen every time you start the system?

my PSU rating is 250W. and i have been continously running benchmarks and Quake III and it hasn't shutdown yet. All my fans are spinning. Sometimes i can boot right up after it shutsdown and sometimes I have to take the power connection out from the PSU and plug it back in to get it started again.

Great, I am having the same problem. In the morning after being shut off all night I will try and boot it, it will begin and then shut off. Gradually the more times I reboot it the farther it gets into the boot until it gets all the way into windows then seems to run fine. Does it on the boot up, then randomly when I am playing Everquest it will just shup completely off. The thing is I have added so much new stuff to my machine all at the same time. The weekend this all started I added a new 17inch monitor, 128mgs of ram, the Everquest expansion and had to change from qwest DSL to MSN DSL(using same DSL modem and drivers). Since then I have completely reformatted and changed from Windows ME back to WIN98SE, that didn't fix it. I've take out the ram that I put in, that didn't fix it. I've unplugged my monitor on the morning cold boot and that didn't fix it. I've totally reseated my PCI cards and also bought a 64mb Gforce2 graphics card and that didn't fix it. I built this machine its a 950mgz AMD Athlon with 256mg ram, 20gm Hard drive, 64mb Video card, DSL and a Yamaha sound card. I am stumped as to wear to go next, I don't want to go out and buy a new power supply only to find out its my motherboard and then vis versa. If anyone of you smart people could throw me a bone as to wear to go next, I would appreciate it. I just got Norton Utilites so I am gunna try that to see if that gives me any help. Thanks
I think both problems may be power supply....the 250W that noxinx has seems a little low to me, since you haven't given full specs I can't say for sure...
spidee...it is usually better to start a new topic, but if you have a low watage psu and you are have trouble starting after the machine has been off for awhile it could be that until things "warm up" a little the intial draw on it is too much for it to handle.
