internet connection

My computer is running Win '98
I have a cable modem.I keep losing connection
to the internet & e-mail.When I run winipcfg,
it shows "PPP Adapter". When I change it to
etherlink,then I can connect to the internet,
then at some point, the connection is lost,
when I go back to winipcfg, it shows PPP adapter
again. ???Help???

If you don’t need the dial up any more remove it from the network settings.
Just delete it from the dial up folder and remove the modem and all the protocols for it from network
