Ive just bought myself a Netgear FS-105 switch 5 port, my aim is to connect 4 pc`s for LAN gaming, all pc`s have on the same game, one of the computers hosting the game so the other 3 pc`s can join his server.

Ive done this before with 3 pc`s using one pc as host with 2 NICs inside
and IP address given to both NICs inside the host and the 2 pc`c, and we gamed for a day stright.

My question is - if i connect 4 pc`s to the Netgear FS-105 switch 5 port will i need to assign IPs to all pc`s plugged into the switch ?

If you are using any of the newer versions of windows (98se or newer) then you can use ICS to create a DHCP server. Set one machine up as a host, and then create a client disk, and run it in all the other machines. This Link (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics), and this Link (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/) will show you how. If you are not going to connect to the internet, then each machine only needs one NIC, otherwise one will need two NIC's
