Win 2k SP4. I have been getting random crashes of WE, accompanied by the message "Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created" A file search by time fails to turn up said error log, might have been clever of them to indicate WHERE the thing resides. I'm wondering if this could be related to a possible infection by CWS.smartsearch.2, which I have described in the security forum? If not, what else might be the problem/cure?
TIA

A typical Microsoft message!
The error log can be found from Help & Support>Tools> Advanced System Information> View event log.
If the information in there is any use, or even comprehensible is another matter entirely!

Thanks, wasn't able to locate the path you mention (in win2k help has no tools option, unless I'm missing it. Not too terribly unlikely...) but I did find the log under the nauseatingly name "Dr. Watson", which is apparently what's pulling the plug on we. Found what I presume ;) to be the Dr Watson log (sheeesh) and was highly relieved to find that "Application exception occurred: app: explorer.exe (pid=896)
When: 8/9/2004 @ 08:58:53.934 Exception number: c0000005 (access violation). How terribly informative. Guess I'd better consult Holmes on this one.
Nice to see when M$ can't be helpful, they can at least be sickeningly cute...
