Hello Everyone,
I have just finished building my first PC! I have an In-Win S500 case with a ECS K7S5A motherboard. I installed 4 PEM studs (according to the limited directions I received with the case) behind the MB on the case (no screws are going into the studs however and I can't see the studs. I think that the MB is resting on them perhaps?). I then connected the MB to the case with 9 hex screws. The case has 9 little "domes with holes" that the MB rests on and then the screws. There are no plastic washers or anything. I connected my CD-RW, Floppy drive, and HD to power supply and IDE/Floppy connectors on the MB. I also installed a AGP Voodoo 3 card. I have 1 256 MB chip installed (PC100 or133 I think).

I plugged in the monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cord to power supply, flipped the switch on the power supply, and pressed the power button on the front of the case... nothing happened! I did notice that the PS fan and the rear case fan did move very little (1/4 of an inch). Does anyone have any idea what I did wrong? Do I have a short some where? I hope I didn't ruin my new MB! I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

First Off
Those little Domes As pictured in this link http://www.in-win.com/icon/s500mec.jpg

Are where the plastic standoffs and Brass studs need to be screwed in.
Using the holes that match with those on the mother board And Only those holes

If your Motherboard is resting on those Raised segments
Then it’s a very good bet the reason it will not power up is the Mother board is shorting out on the metal case.
This could cause the M/B to burn out if it does get power.

If there are no Plastic standoffs or other way to protect the Mother board then something is missing from the box. And or parts bag.

Rick,

Thanks for the information. I did receive 4 silver metal hex standoffs (PEM studs?) with the case. Should I put one in each of the four corners? My MB should still fit into the I/O ports at the rear of the case right?

Thank you for your time. This is what I love about the Internet, people helping other people!

If you look at the layout of the mother board in this link. http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/k7s5a.htm

You can also click on the image and it will give you an enlarged view

** Just Noted this On the Case site***
Stamped Mother board support -
no M/B stand off installation required, for faster M/B installation
** ** ** ** **

In this case you should not need the Mounting studs
Unless you can match one or two with the pre drilled holes that are NOT raised.
The supports studs need to be mounted so the mother is level.

You should also obtain some Fiber washers to place on top of the raised (Bumps)
So the MB is Isolated from the case

All slots for cards should line up.
The features area also needs to line up.(keyboard LPT Game Port)
Use All ( 9) mounting points if they line up correctly

Remember to remove all those extra Studs you have installed that are not in use
Or do not line up with the pre-drilled holes in the M/B
