Sorry bout that. I thought I posted but couldn't find where I posted it.

The system is a Dell Dimension 4100
128 meg ram
27.9 gig harddrive with 25.7 free
win98se version # 4.10.2222A
x86 Family 6 model 8 stepping 3 cpu

We bought the system in 2000, I think

Have not installed any new software rescently.

Exact error message is: Windows protection fault reboot the computer.

No unusual behavior except this error message.

Isn't there a button or selection on that message that says "details?"
If you click it, it would give us more info to go by.

There is only a black screen with this message.
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. Ony when I boot up this occurs. It will only boot in Safe Mode when rebooting. If I click on restart in Safe Mode it will boot up ok, most of the time. I may have to try it a couple of times.

This time when you reboot, hold down the Control key till the Startup options menu appears. Select the option to "start with the command prompt." When the prompt letter appears, type in Scanreg/ restore(note the space after letter "g"). Hit Enter. Then you'll see a series of dates. Pick one that you think occurred before the message came up. Hit enter, then reboot.
