I had to replace my motherboard today, and I got a unexpected problem. The epox has a built on audio-card. Some "Legacy audio", and when I disable it in the system bios I'm unable to boot. I don't get anything on the screen. It's like there wouldn't be any signal comming from the graphics card. The computer doesn't give any error signals or such. My system is P3 FCPGA, 640Mb RAM, 2x IDE HDD:s, SoundBlaster Live! Platinum, G-Force256 DDR.
Please help if You can.

Hi and Welcome,

I would take the Soundblaster out for now, and re-enable the onboard sound. Install the OS and let it install the drivers for the onboard sound.

It's a good idea when assembling a system, to just start out with the video card. Once you have successfully installed the OS and everything is working correctly with no conflicts, you can start installing add-on cards one at a time.

Once you have everything up and running with no conflicts, go to Device Manager and Remove all listings that are concerned with your onboard sound.

Power down the system and install the Soundblaster. Boot up and immediately go into BIOS setup. Disable onboard audio. Save and Exit. Continue to boot. If the OS insists on re-installing the onboard drivers, click on Cancel. Go to Device Manager and choose Properties for the onboard sound. Click to check the box beside the line item, "Disable in this Hardware Profile". Reboot. Install SB drivers.

Post back with your progress.

Cheers,

Tanks for the tip. But it wasn't the onboard audio that caused the problem. I did reset the Bios and then went through it step by step. I found out that the Epox EP-3VSA board didn't identify my CPU correctly. I can't get it to understand that the CPU is a 100MHz version not a 133. So now it's overclocking the 650MHz P3 to 866Mhz (100 x 6.5 to 133 x 6.5) resulting in a "no display" problem. I can't get it to 100Mhz, not in the Bios or by jumpers. The MB does have jumpers to lock the CPU Host CLK to 66-, 100- or 133MHZ. The jumpers doesn't seem to have any effect. According to the manual the board does support 500Mhz ~ 1,13Ghz coppermine CPUs.
Can you help further?
Thank you in advance!

Hey,

Hmmm, well, if the board isn't responding from the jumpers or the BIOS, it may be time to return it for a replacement, if that's possible.

I can't think of anything for you to try. I'm too lazy to go look up the specs for that card, but are you sure it supports your particular FCPGA type of processor? Sounds like you have covered all the bases though.

Only thing I can think of is to clear the CMOS before you try to lock the CPU Host clock to 100Mhz.

Hang tight for some more opinions.
