there is a computer that I use that runs windows 2k pro and recently I clicked off a window that popped up.When I clicked it off it left what I would call a remnant of the window or large blank square on the middle of the desktop which won't go away. This particular os that I have doesn't have system restore where I can go back in time to get rid of it.I also don't have a copy of windows to do a fresh install.I have already tried to reboot several times which needless to say it is still there.I have also tried going into task manager to see if I could shut it off that way but the running process window is blank.I would like to correct it if I can because
it says that it is using the cpu at 100% slowing the system down to a crawl.Does anyone have any Ideas? thanks

First you need to run a full set of security scans:

1) Download and install Adaware. Check for updates and perform a full scan. Fix anything that it finds.

2) Update your virus definitions and perform a local virus scan.

3) Go On line and perform an on-line virus scan at Trend Micro or Symantec.

4) Download Hijack This (http://www.subratam.org/?page=removal). Scan and save the log. Please post the log here.

thanks for your reply. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that in my post that the pc in question isn't set up for the internet it doesn't have a modem.I will take your advice and run the virus scan and maybe see if I can borrow a modem somewhere.
